About Michelle Lau
Michelle Lau is the creator of The Rainbow Forest Friends™ — a children’s book series designed to support social-emotional learning, creativity, and connection.
With nearly a decade of experience fostering children and working in youth and family support, Michelle understands that early childhood stories can shape confidence, empathy, and resilience. Her books are built with intention — combining playful adventure with meaningful life lessons.
As an Early Childhood Education student and longtime advocate for family wellness, Michelle creates stories that are simple enough for little learners, but purposeful enough for parents and educators.
The Rainbow Forest Friends™ began as an idea to make learning feel magical — and has grown into a full creative world of books, activities, and classroom resources.
Michelle lives in British Columbia with her family and continues to build stories that help children feel brave, kind, and capable.
My Story
The Rainbow Forest Friends™ didn’t begin as a business plan. They began as conversations — small moments with children who needed stories that felt safe, hopeful, and honest.
Over the years, I’ve seen how powerful imagination can be. A simple character can help a child say something they couldn’t quite put into words. A playful adventure can open the door to real discussions about feelings, friendship, and problem-solving.
I created this forest as a place where children can explore big emotions in small, manageable ways. Where mistakes become learning moments. Where teamwork matters. And where kindness isn’t complicated. This world continues to grow — just like the children who read these stories.
A Few Things About Me
My favourite color is pink — even in a forest full of rainbows.
I’m a proud mom of four amazing kids and one very small (but very mighty) dog named Chloe.
I live with ADHD, which means I have more ideas than sticky notes — so I’ve learned to write everything down immediately.
If you ever visit my house, there’s a good chance you’ll find my coffee in the microwave. Again.
Creativity doesn’t always look tidy — but it’s always full of heart.
Why I Write These Stories
Red the Fox is my favorite character. He’s quick, curious, always on the go — and yes, he’s a little ADHD too.
I understand that energy. Many of my story ideas come from years of working with children and young people of all ages. I’ve seen how powerful kindness can be. I’ve seen how much confidence grows when children feel understood.
The Rainbow Forest Friends™ is my way of paying that forward — creating stories that help the next generation feel seen, capable, and kind.
I believe every child deserves a story where they recognize a piece of themselves.
